See all accommodations in Lisbon

To choose where to stay in Lisbon, start by area and exact address, then compare accommodations. Baixa and Chiado are worth considering on a first visit to the historic centre; Alfama requires attention to access; Avenida da Liberdade and Parque das Nações may fit a trip organised around transport. The best choice depends on your route, final budget and needs.

Baixa and Rossio: a base for the centre

Consider this area if your programme starts with the central streets and squares. Compare the actual route between hotel, transport and first visits. Being in a central neighbourhood does not remove the need to confirm building access, street noise or the route with luggage.

If you only have two days, a base consistent with the planned itinerary may be worth more than an extra facility you will not use. Before booking, check the address on the map and compare it with the places you actually want to visit.

Chiado and Alfama: different atmospheres

Chiado may interest those who want to combine centre walks with shops and cafés. Links to other areas involve slopes, so the hotel’s specific entrance and the route to transport deserve attention.

Alfama is an alternative for those who value the experience of a historic neighbourhood. Before choosing an apartment or hotel, ask how to reach the door with luggage and whether there are stairs in the access or inside. A photo of the view does not answer these questions.

For a stay near nightlife areas such as Bairro Alto or Cais do Sodré, confirm the room and specific street conditions. Do not deduce the noise level of a whole neighbourhood from its name. If sleeping early is essential, include this need in your accommodation choice.

Avenida da Liberdade and Parque das Nações

Compare Avenida da Liberdade and the surroundings of Marquês de Pombal if you intend to organise your stay with metro trips. Check the station serving the address and the route to the room, without assuming all hotels have the same ease of access.

Parque das Nações can work as another base, especially if this area is part of your programme. Plan trips to the historic centre and do not confuse proximity to Oriente with proximity to all attractions. The choice may make sense, but must be made with these journeys included.

Area to compare May be of interest for To check at the address
Baixa and Rossio First visit focused on the historic centre Entrance, noise and luggage route
Chiado Walks, shops and cafés Slopes and transport link
Alfama Stay in a historic neighbourhood Stairs and access to the door
Avenida da Liberdade Programme with metro trips Station and actual route
Parque das Nações An alternative base and visits in this area Trips to the historic centre

Hotel, apartment or hostel?

Choose based on the service you need. In an apartment, confirm how to receive keys, assistance during the stay and included cleaning. In a hotel, check reception and arrival conditions. In a hostel, distinguish private room and dormitory and confirm occupancy rules. None of these categories guarantees, by itself, lower price or greater comfort.

Compare the final price

  • Use the same dates, number of people and room type in comparisons.
  • Check taxes, fees, optional services and total to pay.
  • Confirm cancellation policy and charging moments.
  • Ask about lift, air conditioning, cot or accessibility when needed.
  • Confirm late arrival and departure rules.

Facilities and conditions vary by property; this guide does not assign amenities to hotels that were not verified. Compare transport cost and time spent outside your programme before deciding only on the nightly rate.

Before finalising the booking, consult how to get from the airport to the centre and the areas of visits. The Lisbon guide helps link accommodation, transport and available days.
