Ideas for your trip

Lisbon in 3 days

Choose an itinerary and adapt it to your dates, the group's pace, and the time available. Then, look up accommodation for your stay.

A base in Lisbon to explore the city by areas.

  1. Day 1

Baixa and riverfront. Stroll through Praça do Comércio and leave time to explore the streets of the centre.

  2. Day 2

Alfama and viewpoints. Organise the route according to the group's comfort: there are climbs and stairs. If you want to visit the castle, confirm the ticket and timetable.

  3. Day 3

Belém. Combine a riverside walk with the visits that interest you. Confirm opening times and tickets before choosing the monuments.

Before booking, confirm schedules, tickets, access and weather conditions. Adjust arrival and departure days to your transport.

Plan your arrival

Sources to prepare visits

Day 1: Baixa, Chiado and Alfama

Alternative A, full day: start at Rossio, walk along Rua Augusta and reach Praça do Comércio. Pause for lunch before choosing the afternoon block. Then consider Chiado and Alfama, reducing stops if the climbs or time available make the programme demanding.

Alternative B, partial arrival: concentrate the walk in Baixa and Chiado. Leave Alfama for a later block and dine in an area compatible with the return to your accommodation. If you want to include a fado house, check the programme and book only after knowing the actual time you can arrive.

Day 2: Belém, with one main interior visit

Alternative A: reserve the first block for the Jerónimos Monastery, after confirming opening times and tickets. Use the rest of the day for Belém’s exteriors, such as Praça do Império and the riverside front. Belém Tower and the Monument to the Discoveries can guide the exterior walk; confirm separately any entry you wish to make.

Alternative B: if contemporary art is the priority, choose MAAT or an exhibition at the Belém Cultural Centre. Keep time for lunch and an exterior walk if conditions allow. One interior visit with a booking and a flexible walk are easier to adjust than several consecutive tickets.

Day 3: Parque das Nações or a slower day

Alternative A: check Oceanário availability and organise the morning around that visit. Pause for lunch and consider a walk in the Parque das Nações area during the afternoon, depending on the weather and the group’s energy. You do not need to add another paid attraction to fill the day.

Alternative B: return to the area you liked most or complete Alfama, Chiado or an interior visit that was left out. Choose a single priority and keep meals in the same geographical block. This alternative can be useful after two days with many journeys or when the group needs to rest.

A fourth day and programme adaptations

With a fourth day, you can keep the visit within Lisbon or consider a trip to Sintra or Cascais. Treat that trip as a separate programme: confirm transport, the main activity and the return, without assuming all monuments or beaches fit in the same day.

With children, intersperse meals and breaks before the group is tired. With mobility needs, check the full route and venue conditions directly; the accessibility of an entrance does not prove that of the whole journey. With rain, swap the order of the days or choose an interior with confirmed opening.

Transport, arrival and bookings

Check access between the airport and accommodation before choosing the arrival programme. Compare each day’s transport with the base address and confirmed bookings. Do not use fixed journey times to chain tickets.

If considering the Lisboa Card, compare current conditions with the entries and routes you will actually use. Keep receipts and provider contacts. On departure day, allow margin for luggage and the journey to the airport before adding a final visit.
