Praia de São Rafael is one of the most beautiful beaches in Albufeira, with a 4.8 rating — the highest in this area. It has a Blue Flag, calm, crystal-clear water, and unique rock formations that also make it one of the most photographed in the municipality.
Getting there and parking
Access is easy, with two free car parks right by the beach — a rare advantage in this part of the Algarve, where paid parking is the norm at most neighbouring beaches.
The sand and the sea
It has about 250 metres of fine golden sand, flanked by rocks sculpted by the sea that form small caves and natural arches. The calm, clear water is ideal for swimming and snorkelling near the rocks, especially at low tide.
Facilities
The beach is well suited to families, with toilets, showers, and lifeguards during the bathing season — one reason for the high rating it gets from visitors.
Where to eat
There are no restaurants right on this quieter beach, but the centre of Albufeira is just a few minutes’ drive away, with the full range of the town’s restaurants and cafés.
Nearby beaches
Praia da Coelha is about 1.2 km away, Praia do Peneco (Tunnel Beach) about 2.6 km, and Praia dos Pescadores about 3 km — all Blue Flag beaches, easy to combine into a day along the Albufeira coast.
