From Lisbon Airport to your accommodation, compare metro, taxi, app-based ride-hailing and pre-booked transfer. The metro has a station at the airport on the Red Line, but the final leg depends on your hotel address. The best option is the one that combines arrival time, luggage, number of people and accessibility.
First, your accommodation address
Before choosing transport, note the exact address and entry instructions. A hotel presented as being in the centre may be far from the station you imagined or have a final stretch with inclines. The guide to neighbourhoods where to stay helps frame your choice.
Allow time to exit the terminal, collect luggage and reach the transport departure point. Do not schedule a visit too close to landing. A no-traffic travel estimate also does not replace the margin for a delayed flight.
Metro: confirm the connection to your hotel
The Airport station belongs to the Red Line. Consult the official diagram to choose the connection to the station serving your accommodation. The presence of metro at the airport does not mean all central hotels have a direct journey or that the exit station is right outside.
Check the transport ticket conditions and validation method before starting the journey. Prices and schedules must be checked with Metropolitano, not deduced from an old guide. If considering the Lisboa Card, confirm its validity, activation and conditions for the intended journey.
When accessibility is essential, check the status of lifts and confirm the route at the stations used. Also consider the path from the exit station to the building. A large suitcase, a baby stroller or a wheelchair may change the choice.
Taxi and ride-hailing: follow official channels
For a taxi, use the official rank signposted at the airport. Airport information recommends licensed transport and warns against approaches inside the terminal. Confirm the taximeter is working and ask for a receipt.
For an app-based ride, follow the app’s current instructions and airport signage for the pickup point. Do not assume boarding occurs at the same spot as the taxi rank. Confirm the licence plate and reservation before entering the vehicle.
Compare the quoted price, vehicle capacity and luggage allowance, especially for groups. Conditions vary by service and availability. A car journey to the hotel may ease arrival, but traffic and street access must still be considered.
Pre-booked transfer: what to ask
A pre-booked transfer can be useful when you want to combine meeting and destination before travelling. Confirm who provides the service, where the driver will be, what happens if your flight is delayed and how much waiting time is included.
- Destination address and possibility of reaching the accommodation entrance.
- Number of passengers and luggage volume allowed.
- Equipment or child seats, when needed.
- Conditions for changes, cancellation and additional charges.
- Support contact and instructions in case of mismatch.

Late arrivals and return day
If your flight arrives late, check the current metro schedule and hotel entry cutoff. On return, allow necessary margin with the airline and consider possible transport changes. Avoid relying on a connection you have not yet confirmed.
