Praia da Galé is split into two sections, East and West, with about 1 km of sand in total and a 4.5 rating. It has held a Blue Flag since 1987 — one of the longest-standing awards in the region — and calm-to-moderate water, with good conditions for families.
Getting there and parking
There’s paid parking by both sections of the beach, with separate access points for East and West — worth picking the side that matches where you’re staying, since walking between the two along the sand isn’t easy at high tide.
The sand and the sea
The sand is fine and golden, and at low tide natural rock pools form among the rocks — one of the beach’s highlights, great to explore with children and for snorkelling in shallow water.
Facilities
It’s an excellent beach for families, with toilets, showers, sunbed hire, and lifeguards during the bathing season, on both sides.
Where to eat
Right on the sand there are restaurants and beach bars in both sections, with sea views and options for a meal after a day exploring the rock pools.
Nearby beaches
Praia Grande (Pêra) is about 2.7 km away. Praia da Armação de Pêra and Praia da Coelha are both about 2.8 km, in opposite directions — easy to pick whichever fits your day’s route.
