The Algarve has no single daily price: your dates, accommodation, transport and activities determine the total. To decide whether it is expensive for you, compare complete quotes for the same trip and divide the group total by travellers and days. The calculator below uses your figures, with no preset prices.
Is the Algarve expensive?
It depends on the trip you are comparing. A room quote alone does not show the full cost: add flights, airport transfers, local travel, food and activities. Compare the same dates, number of guests and cancellation terms. Keep refundable deposits separate from final expenses, while allowing enough money to cover them.
For a week in the Algarve, enter the accommodation total for the nights you will stay and the number of days you will spend money on food. Seven days does not always mean seven hotel nights. The result is a planning total, not an offer or a guaranteed market price.
How to plan the Algarve on a budget
- Compare alternative dates using the best time to visit the Algarve guide, then obtain quotes for each option.
- Compare a car with trains, buses and transfers for your actual route. Include parking, fuel and any hire conditions.
- Check whether breakfast, cleaning and local taxes are included before comparing accommodation totals.
- Choose the activities you intend to book and record their final price rather than adding an assumed daily allowance.
EU consumer guidance says that prices should clearly include taxes and additional charges. Check the official guidance on pricing and payments and ask the provider to clarify any separate costs before paying.

How to collect final quotes without duplicating
Always ask for a dated quote in writing, with the lead name, exact dates, number of guests and cancellation conditions. Confirm in the quote the applicable costs, including cleaning, local fees and surcharges. Record any refundable deposit separately: it requires cash available, but it is not a final cost if it is returned. Save the document as a PDF or screenshot to compare later. If the supplier sends a price per night, multiply by the number of nights of the stay to get the group total before entering it in the calculator. If they send a total price per week, confirm how many nights it covers and whether it includes the last day or not.
Avoid double counting by checking what is already included. An airport transfer may appear in the accommodation package, in the flight booking or as a standalone service. Choose one version and ignore the others. The same applies to breakfast, parking or tourist taxes: confirm once where they fit and record them only in that field.

Comparing options fairly
To compare accommodation, flights or activities, always use the same dates, the same number of occupants and the same payment conditions. A difference of one night or one guest can distort the result. Present the options side by side on a simple sheet: supplier, dates, occupancy, total price, cancellation conditions and what is included. Only then is the comparison useful. Do not assume that one area or season is cheaper than another without checking with real quotes for your case.
Remember that the price per night can vary depending on the room occupancy. A double room for two people has a different cost per person than the same room for one person only. When entering values in the calculator, use the group total and leave the division per person for the final result.

Transport: where to get up to date information
To get to and from the Algarve, consult the official sources rather than relying on old values. The Faro Airport page indicates local bus links between the airport and the centre of Faro, operated by Próximo, and the Vamus Aerobus service to Albufeira, Portimão and Lagos. For up to date timetables and stops, use the regional journey planner also linked by the airport. Train passengers should be aware that there is no station at the airport: a bus or taxi to Faro station is required.
Within the region, CP announced on 7 July 2026 that, from 19 July, the Algarve line would have electric trains and direct links between Vila Real de Santo António and Lagos, without a compulsory change in Faro. Always confirm timetables on the CP page for your date and route, and check whether the chosen link requires a change. Also ask about local tourist taxes, and confirm whether they are included in the total. Only after converting everything into a group total should you enter the value in the calculator.

Limits of this approach
This calculator is only as accurate as the data you give it. Quotes without a date, per person values mixed with totals, or overlapping categories will produce misleading results.
