Whale and Dolphin Watching in Madeira

Off the coast of Madeira, short-finned pilot whales and bottlenose dolphins live year-round. Sperm whales and striped dolphins are seen regularly but are not residents.

The best time is approximately from April to October. Operators follow Decree-Law No. 9/2006, which defines minimum approach distances and limits the number of vessels near each group, many carry a marine biologist on board.
