Praia do Tonel is one of the best surf spots in Sagres, with about 400 metres of golden sand at the foot of red sandstone cliffs. It has a Blue Flag and a 4.7 rating, and sits right next to the Fortaleza de Sagres, at the southwestern tip of the Algarve.

It’s a few minutes from the centre of Sagres, next to the fortress, with free parking nearby.

Around 400 metres of golden sand are framed by red sandstone cliffs. Facing the open ocean, it has choppy water and consistent waves — which is why it’s a favourite among surfers, though it calls for extra care from swimmers.
Facilities
As a Blue Flag beach, it has support during the bathing season. Given the sea conditions, it’s rated moderate for families — great for watching the surf, demanding for swimming with children.
