Praia da Fuzeta is a barrier island with two very different sides: on one, the calm lagoon of the Ria Formosa, perfect for families; on the other, the open sea, better suited to those looking for waves and adventure. With about 2 km of fine sand and a 4.5 rating, it’s one of the most versatile beaches in the eastern Algarve.
Getting there and parking
You reach it by boat from the village of Fuzeta, crossing the lagoon to the island. There is no car access to the island beach.
The sand and the sea
On one side, the calm, shallow lagoon is ideal for children; on the other, facing the Atlantic, the sea is more moderate, favoured by those who enjoy swimming in open water. This double front is Fuzeta’s defining feature.
Facilities
It’s rated excellent for families, largely thanks to the sheltered lagoon. By the landing point there is beach support during the bathing season.
Where to eat
The village of Fuzeta, on the mainland, has restaurants and cafés serving fresh fish and seafood, a short crossing from the island.

Praia da Ilha da Armona is about 4 km away and Praia da Ilha da Culatra about 10.9 km, both in the Ria Formosa. Further east, towards Tavira, lies Praia do Barril.
