Praia do Amado is a surfing mecca in the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park, with about 1 km of fine golden sand in a wild landscape. With the highest rating in the area, 4.8, it’s known for consistent waves throughout the year.

Getting there and parking

It sits on the west coast, about 17 km north of Sagres, near Carrapateira, with free parking by the beach.

The sand and the sea

It’s a wide beach, with about 1 km of golden sand open to the Atlantic. The choppy water and constant waves make it one of the country’s most sought-after surf destinations, with surf schools and surfers filling the sand almost all year round.

Facilities

As a natural, exposed beach, its facilities are mostly surf-related during the high season. Given the sea conditions, it’s rated moderate for families — spectacular for walking and watching the surf, demanding for swimming.

Where to eat

There are food outlets by the beach in high season, and the village of Carrapateira, a few minutes away, has restaurants and cafés.

Nearby beaches

It’s an isolated beach on the Vicentine Coast: the Sagres cluster — Martinhal, Tonel, and Mareta — is about 17 km to the south.

Where to stay

Nearby accommodation includes Villas2go2 Carrapateira (3 stars), Casa D’Aldeia – Carrapateira, and Casa Presente Guesthouse. Check hotel availability near Praia do Amado.
