Vilamoura: Complete Guide — Marina, Golf & Beaches 2026

Why visit Vilamoura

Vilamoura is the Algarve’s premium destination. Purpose-built as a luxury resort in the 1970s, it’s a planned town centred around an elegant marina, world-class golf courses, and five-star resorts. It doesn’t have the historic charm of Tavira or Olhão’s authenticity, but makes up for it with impeccable infrastructure, comfort, and an offering that attracts those seeking no-compromise holidays.

The marina is the heart of everything — restaurants, bars, shops, and yachts lining a promenade that comes alive at sunset. Vilamoura is especially popular with golfers (5 courses nearby), couples seeking luxury, and families who prefer all-inclusive resorts.

Things to see and do in Vilamoura

Vilamoura Marina

The Algarve’s largest marina and one of Portugal’s most beautiful. Over 1,000 berths, surrounded by restaurants, bars, a casino, and boutiques. Perfect for sunset strolls, dinner with a view, or yacht-watching. Boat trips, fishing excursions, and sunset cruises depart from here.

Falésia Beach

Falésia Beach is one of the Algarve’s most impressive — 6 km of continuous sand below multi-coloured cliffs of red, orange, and white. Considered one of Portugal’s most beautiful beaches and rarely crowded thanks to its length.

Vilamoura Marina Beach

Marina Beach is the most accessible — right by the marina and hotel zone. Blue Flag, well-equipped with loungers, restaurants, and water sports. Ideal if you don’t want to drive.

Golf

Vilamoura is the Algarve’s golf epicentre, with 5 championship courses: Victoria (Portugal Masters venue), Old Course, Pinhal, Millennium, and Laguna. Courses in excellent condition year-round. Green fees €60-200 depending on season. See our Algarve golf guide.

Vilamoura Casino

By the marina, offering table games, slots, and live shows. Smart casual dress code.

Cerro da Vila — Roman Ruins

A surprisingly well-preserved Roman archaeological site near the marina. Museum with mosaics, fish-salting tanks, and thermal bath remains. Quick visit (30-45 min), €3 entry.

Boat Trips

Sunset cruises, dolphin watching, cave tours, sport fishing. From €25 for a 2-hour trip.

Water Sports

Jet ski, parasailing, banana boat, flyboard — the Algarve’s largest water sports offering. Operators on Marina Beach and east marina.
