Compare six accommodations for this trip

The Porto.CARD can make sense when the benefits match the visits and transport you plan to use. To decide, compare the current price of the chosen option with the cost of alternatives. Do not count discounts for activities you do not want to do, unavailable entries or journeys outside the coverage.

Separate tourist card and transport

Visit Porto presents options with and without transport. The tourist benefits and the transport ticket must be evaluated separately, with their own conditions of use and activation. Buying the card does not mean that all transport services in the region are included.

In options with transport, check the operators, routes and limits covered. The official conditions state that unlimited use does not apply to the trams. Do not generalise the coverage to boats, cable cars, coach excursions or regional journeys to the Douro.

Do the maths with your programme

First write down the visits you really intend to make and the transport needed. Check the direct price of each option, confirm whether there is an included entry or only a discount and calculate the effective benefit. A reduction must be applied to the ticket you will buy, without using the highest price of a different experience.

Comparison: value of included entries you would use + effective discounts you would apply + cost of covered journeys you would make, versus the price of the chosen card option.

Programme How to evaluate Main caution
Several covered visits Add up effective benefits Confirm bookings and opening
Tours and few entries Compare necessary transport Do not pay for visits of no interest
Douro trip Check each component Do not assume regional coverage
Family Compare individual categories Do not use the adult calculation for everyone
Itinerary still undefined Choose visits first Do not adapt the trip just to the card

Validity, collection and validation

Confirm the available duration, the way to register the start of use and the collection point when you buy online. Do not assume that the purchase confirmation is enough to enter all services. Keep the instructions for the card and the transport ticket.

On transport, validate at the start of the journey and when you change line or mode, according to the official instructions. The time validity does not remove this obligation. The Andante guide and routes helps to distinguish these steps.

Discount does not equal reservation or immediate entry

Check the partner rules for each benefit. Presenting the card after paying may not allow you to recover the discount. Also confirm whether it is compatible with the ticket type and with other promotions, without assuming accumulation.

A visit requiring a booking must continue to be prepared according to the operator. Check opening, arrival time, age category and accessibility. If an important monument is not available, redo the comparison before buying the card.

Different decisions within the same group

Two people travelling together can get different results: one wants museums and monuments, the other prefers outdoor tours. Child categories can also change the calculation. Do not present a universal saving without confirming tickets and benefits for each person.

Start with visits by zone and the Porto itineraries. Separately check the airport transport, the cellar visits and the Douro trip. The main guide gathers the remaining choices. This guide does not fix prices or guarantee a saving; the decision must use the current conditions published by the operators.
