Compare six accommodations for this trip

To get around Porto, compare walking with metro, bus and train according to the route. Andante is an intermodal ticketing system for the metropolitan area; this does not mean that any tourist service or any train outside the region is included. Always start with the destination and the operator you will use.

An itinerary map before tickets

Mark accommodation, arrival station and reserved visits. If the programme focuses on the historic centre, combine walking routes with an alternative for the return. For Gaia, Serralves, Foz or other areas, check the actual connections rather than assuming all points are on the same line.

Also account for access between the stop and the destination door. A nearby station on the map may leave stairs or level changes unresolved. The accommodation guide helps you choose a consistent base and the day-by-day itinerary helps reduce unnecessary crossings of the city.

Andante: zones and validation

Check the ticket appropriate for the journey and its period of use. For occasional tickets, confirm the required zones before loading the card. Do not copy the ticket bought by another visitor without checking if it corresponds to your trip.

Validate when you start the journey and whenever you change line or transport, including on journeys with a time-valid ticket. On the metro and train, validators are in the stations; on the bus, use the validators at the entrance. Confirm the correct validation indication before proceeding.

The Blue Andante card is for one person at a time. A card loaded with multiple journeys should not be used simultaneously by two people. Check specific rules for other modes, categories and applications on the official website, without treating all tickets as equivalent.

Journey What to check Practical decision
Airport and city Line E and final connection Ticket for the actual route
Between urban zones Operator map and timetables Walk, connect or change line
Train journey CP category and conditions Check ticket coverage
Tourist service Experience operator Confirm separate ticket
Douro Outbound, destination and return Do not assume urban coverage

Porto.CARD is not just a metro ticket

The Porto.CARD brings together tourist benefits, with distinct options regarding transport. Compare the two components separately: the visits you will use and the actual journeys. The tourist card and the transport ticket may have different usage instructions.

Confirm inclusions, validity and validation before purchase. Do not deduce coverage of tourist trams, boats, cable cars or excursions just because transport is included. A discount offer also does not mean a free journey.

Urban train and Douro excursion

When planning a train excursion, check the exact station, service and ticket conditions. Coverage of an urban ticket should not be automatically extended to a regional journey. The Douro guide treats the organisation of that excursion as a separate programme.

For the airport route, confirm the connection on the day of the flight. For Gaia and the cellars, identify the path from the arrival point to the reserved cellar. Save timetables and important instructions so you can consult them without a network connection.

Mobility, luggage and service changes

Check accessibility information and operator notices when you depend on elevators or a specific route. Make the assessment for the entire path and save an alternative. Timetables may vary by day and with service changes; an average duration is not a guarantee.

The main Porto guide links these steps to the rest of the planning. Choose the ticket after defining the necessary journeys, comparing current prices on official sources.
