Porto in 2 and 3 days: itinerary with alternatives

In two days, split Porto between the historic centre and Gaia. With three days, add Serralves, Foz or a missed visit. The following proposal offers alternatives per day, without assuming timetables, travel times or ticket availability.

Ideas for your trip

Porto in 3 days

Choose an itinerary and adapt it to your dates, the group's pace, and the time available. Then, look up accommodation for your stay.

A base in Porto to get to know the centre, Gaia and the coast.

  1. Day 1

Historic centre and Ribeira. Choose the indoor visits and leave room for walking journeys.

  2. Day 2

Gaia. Stroll along the river and, if you are interested in visiting a cellar, check the timetables and book the chosen experience directly.

  3. Day 3

Foz or more time in the centre. Decide according to the time and your interests, without concentrating distant visits on the day of departure.

Before booking, confirm schedules, tickets, access and weather conditions. Adjust arrival and departure days to your transport.

Plan your arrival

Airport: Porto (OPO).

To travel by plane, compare flights to the destination airport. Buying flights on SunRoamy is not yet available on this route.

Sources to prepare visits

Day 1: São Bento, Baixa and Ribeira

Alternative A: start at the tiled atrium of São Bento Station. Choose a main visit between the Clérigos area and the Palácio da Bolsa, after confirming current conditions. Allow a lunch break and end the block with a walk through Ribeira, adapting the walk to the group.

Alternative B: if you prefer to start with shopping and urban life, consider Bolhão and Santa Catarina before Baixa. Livraria Lello can be included as a booked visit, instead of combining it with all the interiors of the first alternative. Allow margin for meals and the return to base.

Day 2: Gaia and the cellars, or another cultural programme

Alternative A: organise the trip to Gaia around a visit to a Port wine cellar. Compare the visit format, what is included and age conditions. Allow a meal break and leave the quay walk as a flexible part of the day.

Alternative B: if you do not want a wine tasting, keep Gaia as a walk and choose a cultural activity that interests the group, after confirming opening. You do not need to book a cellar to know this bank. Plan the return transport and dinner location separately.

Day 3: Serralves, Foz or complete the centre

Alternative A: dedicate the main block to Serralves. Compare current tickets and included spaces; museum and park are not equivalent programmes on a rainy day. Organise lunch and transport without assuming a single station or stop serves the whole route to the entrance.

Alternative B: consider Foz for an outdoor programme if conditions allow. Alternatively, return to the centre for Palácio da Bolsa, Clérigos or Lello, if they were missed. Choose one of these axes for the day, instead of trying to combine Serralves, Foz and the centre.

Fourth day and trips outside the city

With a fourth day, you can slow down visits in Porto or consider a trip to the Douro. In that case, choose the location and main activity before booking transport. A train journey, a quinta visit and a cruise are different proposals with their own conditions.

Confirm the outward and return journey for the travel day and do not treat arrival at the destination as proof you can complete all activities. If you prefer to stay in the city, use the day for a cultural visit or the area that best suits the forecast.

Arrivals, rain and group pace

On arrival day, start with the connection between the airport and accommodation. A flight, luggage and check-in may leave only time for a short walk. On departure day, prepare airport access before adding a final visit.

With rain, compare interiors with confirmed opening, such as Palácio da Bolsa or Serralves Museum, and reduce outdoor travel. With children, book one main activity per day and breaks. For mobility needs, confirm entrances, lifts and routes with each provider. Choose accommodation based on the blocks you plan to visit.
