Praia Verde is one of the hidden gems of the Eastern Algarve, located between Castro Marim and Vila Real de Santo António. Stretching roughly 1.5 km, this beach impresses with its vastness and the sense of tranquillity it offers even in peak summer.
The sand is fine and golden, and the waters are surprisingly calm — ideal for families with children. The beach owes its name to the green vegetation covering the surrounding dunes, creating a unique contrast with the ocean blue.
Access is easy, with free parking near the beach. There are beach restaurants and bars serving fresh fish and seafood. The proximity to the Sapal de Castro Marim Nature Reserve makes this area perfect for combining beach time with birdwatching and nature walks.
How to Get There
From Faro, take the A22/IC4 towards Vila Real de Santo António. Exit at Castro Marim/Altura and follow signs to Praia Verde. The drive takes about 45 minutes.
Best Time to Visit
May to October. July and August are the hottest months, but June and September offer pleasant temperatures with fewer crowds. The water is warmer in the Eastern Algarve than on the western coast.
