Calheta opened, in 2004, Madeira’s first artificial beach, sand brought from Morocco over a base of about 100 meters in length, with a marina and an area dedicated to water sports.
It is also the usual starting point for the Paúl da Serra plateau and for the Fanal Trail, one of the island’s most atmospheric paths.
