Milreu: understanding a Roman estate
Milreu lies beside Estoi in the municipality of Faro. Residential and agricultural areas, baths and a religious building form part of the complex. Once the site reopens, try comparing working areas with rooms for living and leisure. Look for interpretation panels explaining how water and decoration shaped the house. Cerro da Vila: Vilamoura before the marina
The Cerro da Vila Museum and Archaeological Site brings together ruins and objects found there. Remains include a Roman villa, mosaics, baths and fish-processing structures. The appeal extends beyond the house itself to the relationship between work and everyday life.

Planning a cultural day out
Our suggestion is to choose one site and another stop in the same area. There is no need to cross the Algarve to tick off all three in a day. From Vilamoura, start with Cerro da Vila; around Portimão, consider Alcalar and the museum if prehistory interests you. Keep Milreu conditional on confirmed reopening.
- Without a car: check the outward journey, the final stretch to the entrance and the return before leaving. A service to the nearest town does not necessarily reach the monument.
- Weather: these sites include outdoor routes. Bring water and suitable shoes and check the Algarve weather forecast. A museum on site does not make the entire visit an indoor activity.
- Access: ask about surfaces, steps, toilets and the sections you can actually visit. Check pushchair access separately if needed.
- Tickets: verify admission, discounts, last entry and any lunchtime break on official websites. Educational activities may need advance booking.
